About
A community held together by returning
जानकीशरणम्
Jankisharnam is not a building or an institution so much as a habit that a group of people keep together — of gathering, of reading, of cooking, of sitting quietly in the same place at the same hour.
Our story
This is where Jankisharnam's own account of its founding belongs — when the first gatherings began, who began them, and what the community has grown into since. We have deliberately not written it for you.
Replace this section with the history in the organisation's own voice. Dates, names and lineage should come directly from those who hold them.
What we are for
A statement of mission belongs here: what the community exists to do, whom it serves, and what it hopes people find when they arrive.
How we practise
The philosophy section — the texts studied, the form the practice takes, and the reasoning behind it. Keep it plain enough that a first-time visitor can follow it.
What we hold to
-
Open to everyone
No membership, no fee, no prerequisite. Whoever comes, comes.
-
Practice before theory
The singing and the sitting come first. Understanding follows, at its own pace.
-
Service as its other half
What is received in the hall is meant to be spent outside it.
-
Held by many hands
Almost everything here is done by volunteers, quietly and without credit.
The rest of this page is best replaced by something only Jankisharnam can write. Everything else on the site is ready for it.
